Chestnutt Holiday Parks

Chestnutt Holiday Parks

For our second caravan trip we decided to venture further than the 3 miles from our first trip. Now remember it’s aways a good idea when you first get a Caravan not to venture to far as there will always be something which you will forget and need to nip home for.

This happened us serval times on our first trip out so being only 3 miles from home we where able to nip back and pick up those things which we had forgotten. This trip even though we went a little further we where still able to nip home once or twice as was needed – the great thing about this approach is you get a feel for what you need and more importantly what you don’t need (will come back to that on a later blog)

We decided to book 4 nights at Chestnutt Holiday Park at Cranfield in Kilkeel in Co. Down. This is a fantastic site within 30 seconds walk to the amazing Blue Flag beach at Cranfield on Carlingford Lough.

We arrived on Thursday evening on site myself and Charlie and got the Caravan all set up – Charlie (11) has become a great help with the Caravan and has become my right-hand man – I can safely say he is a natural when it comes to this sort of stuff. It took us about 45 mins to get everything all set up (Outside & In) with Elaine and Jonny arriving shortly afterwards.

As it was later in the evening once we got everything set up we did not have much time to explore to decided to get an early night and wake up fresh to get out and explore.

The Facilities at Chestnutt Holiday Parks

The facilities at Chestnutt Holiday Parks are excellent some of the facilities include;

  • All weather pitches fully serviced with multi-service hookup
  • Restaurant, Takeout & shop on site
  • Greywater /waste disposal
  • Centralised wash facilities
  • 16 amp electric points

The Price

We stayed in the meadows which was just opposite reception & only a short walk to the playpark & blue flag beach. The pitch was spacious & enjoys panoramic views of the Mourne Mountains.

Price per night was £25.00 which we felt given the location and the facilities were real good value for money – A big plus for me compared to our first pitch at a different caravan site it was nice and flat which ensures I felt at least a much better sleep.

Dogs are also welcome at Chestnutt Holiday Park but need to be kept on a lead we noticed a lot of families who had a dog with them as did we.

Our verdict of Chestnutt Holiday Parks

We really enjoyed out stay at Chestnutt Holiday Park and will back again soon – its a nice place to chill out and relax and enjoy nice walks along the lovely blue flag beach. Facilities are excellent and it’s very family focused, the only downside which we could find was hot water wasn’t great in the washing up facilities on the times we used them, this is important as we did BBQ a bit and was a little more difficult washing up.

Another small thing to point out is that if you plan on using the shower facilities & lets face it, it’s nice to have a shower you need to purchase tokens priced at £0.75p from the reception to use the Showers – other than that if you are just starting out with your caravan and looking the first trip away make sure to check it out.
